Aggreko
Who are Aggreko?
Aggreko is a global leader in temporary power generation, providing customers with efficient and cost effective industrial generators and power distribution, including a wide range of specialised generators, transformers and load banks.
Aggreko employs over 5,700 people operating from 194 locations. In 2012 they served customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately GBP 1.6bn.
What they wanted
Aggreko had been looking to improve on previous attempts to quantify and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and following the announcement of the UK’s Mandatory Carbon Reporting (MCR) scheme in June 2012 decided to get external support.
While Aggreko has systems in place for monitoring business critical information, monitoring and reporting GHG emissions was not previously core to Aggreko’s corporate communications so this aspect needed to be strengthened. Ahead of the requirement to report GHG emissions in Directors’ Reports, Aggreko wished to implement a comprehensive and auditable GHG monitoring system for its global operations, including its fleet of generators and chilling equipment.
How we helped
Ecometrica worked closely with Aggreko’s communications and business intelligence teams to implement a global environmental accounting system based on the Ecometrica Sustainability platform. The software takes data from Aggreko’s existing inhouse business intelligence system and automatically calculates and reports emissions for its global fleet of over 15,000 generators, chillers and other mobile equipment.
In addition Aggreko collected data for all global operations spanning over 220 sites including scope one, two and three emission sources. In line with best practice Aggreko are also able to quantify and report GHG emissions from upstream activities, such as fuel supply chains and electricity related transmission and distribution losses.
