Who are OLM Systems?

OLM Systems Ltd is a unique software and services organisation, focused on making a positive difference to people across the UK. It was launched in May 1991 by Peter O’Hara who was set on a mission to enable change within health and social care through dedicated software.

With over 30 years of experience and 220 employees operating across three UK-based offices, OLM Systems works with a variety of organisations to apply their sector knowledge and expertise in technology to create software and services that act as catalysts for change.

As an organisation, OLM Systems prioritises responsible business practices and therefore required a tool which would assist them in tracking, calculating and reporting on their carbon footprint.

What Did They Want to Achieve?

OLM Systems contacted Ecometrica with the desire of beginning to track and report on their greenhouse gas emissions as part of their sustainability efforts. As an organisation, OLM Systems prioritises responsible business practices and therefore required a tool which would assist them in tracking, calculating and reporting on their carbon footprint.

OLM Systems were required to comply with UK legislation, Procurement Policy Note 06/21 (PPN 06/21) as they were bidding on UK government contracts worth over £5 million per annum. This meant that OLM Systems was required to record, calculate and report on their scope 1, scope 2 and select scope 3 emissions (upstream transportation and distribution, employee commuting, business travel, waste generated during operations and downstream transportation and distribution) within a Carbon Reduction Plan. What Did We Do?

Ecometrica’s platform was used to centralise information, perform all calculations and produce live analytics and reporting on OLM Systems’ selected scope of greenhouse gas emissions across their three UK sites mandatory for PPN 06/21 compliance. OLM Systems also used the platform to measure and report on additional scope 3 emissions including the emissions generated from their cloud-based software and from employees working from home.

Alongside the Sustainability Platform as a carbon accounting tool, Ecometrica’s analyst team provided training to assist OLM staff in using the tool, quality assurance of the data entered in the platform and assistance in completing the Carbon Reduction Plan as aligned with PPN 06/21 report.

OLM Systems found that the main advantages of using Ecometrica’s software were:

Centralised online location for data collection with unlimited platform users

Automatic calculation of greenhouse gas emissions in real time as data is entered

Analyst support throughout the assessment process including quality assurance

PPN 06/21-compliant reporting output

Support of knowledgeable analysts to assist in completion of the Carbon Reduction Plan template
