Keeping workers safe at all times
Discover how Celtic was able to fulfil their duty of employee care
Celtic, as part of its operations, employs employees in the field that face various potential dangers during their working day. This includes working at height, large scale excavation works and exposure to contaminated lands. Dangers such as these made up 62.5% of all self-reported workplace risk factors in 2017* and while steps can be taken to reduce risk, accidents can still occur in such environments. In a majority of cases, having a quick way to call for assistance can mean the difference between life and death.
Stephen Kidley, Senior Operations manager at Celtic explains, “Prior to Lone Worker, we relied on traditional safety practices such as asking staff to send text messages or call in to let management know of their whereabouts. However, this method relied heavily on employees remembering to contact the office and was also problematic for those that carried out work in remote areas. Worker safety and in particular lone worker safety is of the utmost importance to us and it is vital that employees feel comfortable and protected whilst at work.”

Keep employees protected while at work with an accurate monitoring system
The Lone Worker App fulfilled all Celtic requirements and more
Management is confident that employees can communicate with them effectively if an incident were to occur
The Story
To ensure they were better meeting their duty of care, Celtic decided to look for a new safety solution. They wanted something that was app-based and compatible with their employees smartphones so that they didn’t need to pay for any additional equipment. It was also important for the app to have an accurate monitoring system and an in-built panic alarm.
Lone Worker is an app and monitoring service which allows an employer to monitor the location and safety status of their lone workers when a session or alert is activated. If an employee is in need of assistance, the monitor will be alerted via SMS, email and on-screen.
EcoOnline provided a range of useful functionality to help Celtic overcome their lone worker challenges, including;
- Non-movement alerts
- Hourly check-ins
- Location monitoring
- Personalized customer service and easy implementation
Celtic were pleased with the great features the Lone Worker App had to offer. They were able to check the whereabouts of employees throughout the day to make sure they were safe. They were also confident that if an incident were to happen employees were able to communicate effectively.
“Set up of the app was very quick and we were all impressed with its simplicity. Our staff are really pleased with the app and feel much more comfortable knowing that they have it with them. The customer service we have received from EcoOnline has been excellent and the solutions they provide are great value for money,” Stephen adds.
